BIIF soccer seeks

refs; meeting set

The Big Island Soccer Referee Association invites all referees to participate in the upcoming Big Island Interscholastic Federation soccer season.

There is a mandatory referee sign-up meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Hilo High School, Room BB202, with parking in the main parking lot.

The Kailua-Kona meeting is Oct. 30 at Konawaena High School (Room Q202) and a meeting in Waimea is Nov. 4 at 68-3765 Mahina St. in Waikoloa.

Referees must attend one of these meetings to officiate during the BIIF season. Referees also must complete the National Federation of State High School Associations examination and bring it to the meetings to be graded, and a fee of $40 will be collected to cover dues.

Na Hoa o Puna

soccer tourney slated

Na Hoa o Puna soccer club will host a five-on-five tournament Dec. 14-15 at Shipman Park in Keaau.

The entry fee is $125 per team, and the deadline to register is Dec. 4.

Go-kart racing club

revving up Saturday

The Orchid Isle Ohana Kart Club will hold racing from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Gates open at 8 a.m., registration is open until 9 a.m., and a short drivers’ meeting will follow with practice running until 10:30 a.m.

HGEA to hold tennis fun day on Sunday

The Hawaii Government Employees Association will hold a tennis fun day from noon-4 p.m. Sunday at Edith Kanaka’ole Multipurpose Stadium.

Mauna Kea Polo Club

offering youth clinic

Mauna Kea Polo Club is offering a youth polo clinic from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Waikii Ranch on old Saddle Road.

The goal of the clinic is to teach young riders the basics of the game and to introduce their horses to polo.

Wilbur O’Farrell of the Polo Training Foundation will be the instructor, and topics include orientation to polo, hands-on mallet handling and actual polo riding.

The clinic is free to riders 18 and younger and $20 for others.

The season continues at 1 p.m. Sunday. Gates open at noon.

An Introduction to Golf for Parents free clinic will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course driving range.

According to a release, the main focus of this clinic is to provide novice golfers with valuable information such as how to get started playing the game, what the game has to offer their family, and instruction as well as information about the Big Island Junior Golf Association.

Hilo Municipal professional staffers Lance Taketa, Rodney Acia, Lee Hardy and Troy Sato will help conduct the clinic.

Golf clubs are not required.
